PRESS RELEASE
APRIL 17 2008
San Felipe Animal Rescue
WOOFSTOCK & BITCHY BINGO
were a Big Financial Success.
Everyone take a "bow-bow"
for a job well done!
The tents are gone, the bands and comedians have packed up and left, and by now, the Tecate girls have put the rest of their clothes back on. For the record, Woofstock '08 is officially over! #1

Here are the numbers San Felipe Animal Rescue achieved for the entire project, beginning with raffle ticket sales back in early October (the winner of the cruise for two to the Mexican Riviera is Eileen Cremata, a great supporter of San Felipe Animal Rescue. She bought 500 raffle tickets, won the cruise, and then donated the cruise right back to us). Then came Bitchy Bingo at the Pavillion at el Dorado Ranch on February 25th, and finally, WOOFSTOCK ws3'08 at the Salon in the Ejido on April 12th.

The entire project from start to finish raised a whopping $33,600, with a net profit of $13,000. My promise to everyone that would hear me, "was all production expenses would be privately raised", so the goal amount of $30,000 to fund the 2008 SFAR Spay/Neuter Project would be safe from production expenses. Unfortunately, the cost of producing these events was higher than expectations, (what a ws2surprise, glad I'm sitting down) and private donations were less than we projected, (another surprise). Some say the economy played a big part, but in any event, it became extremely difficult to raise the money needed to underwrite the entire project.  That being said, Woofstock, so far, has funded two spay/neuter campaigns in Los Gavillanos in as many months with funds raised. One in February, and one in March, and another is planned at the end of this month---and we still have enough money to fund May, June and July, with definitive fundraising plans for funding August, September and October. Another outrageous funding event is planned for November, sswhen the San Felipe "snowbird" season officially begins again.  SFAR is on a learning curve with regard to fundraising in San Felipe. Like every other non-profit in town, we are all working hard to get the same dollars from the same people, and we know how limited those dollars are. Although it's a big challenge, my feeling is simply that so long as you deliver an interesting, if sometimes controversial product, the money will somehow be there for it. It's kind of like, if you build it, they will come.  I think both Bitchy Bingo and Woofstock were unique events for our town, and both the integrity and theronda commitment of the planners, volunteers and residents was overwhelmingly present.  SFAR, and the stray and indigent animals of this town are extremely grateful, as am I. We all look forward to lots of fun and challenging events in both the near and distant future.  Regards, Steven Forman, Derek Wille, Vickie & Darryl Silva, Heather Penrod and Nancy Murphy, and all the good folks that rolled up their sleeves and contributed to the success of Woofstock '08.
